1. Laundry is expensive.
2. Quarters. They are sacred. If you do not have quarters, you do not have clean clothes.
3. Free time is a myth. Either your creating artwork, or buying supplies to create more artwork. You learn to mix work time and fun time, or else you won't have any fun time. Example: I went to the Botanical Gardens. My sketchbook came with me.
4. You don't know how to draw. They teach you how to draw.
5. Do what they tell you to do, or else you will have to re-do it. More work, less time, for you.
6. Everything is over-priced. You quickly learn to be thrifty; disposable plastic dishware now has many uses. For example, disposable plastic cups also work as paintbrush cups, foam plates can double as a pallet.
7. Yes, art supplies are really THAT expensive. And yes, you will go through it quickly.
8. Several trips will have to be taken to the art store. You may think you have all of your supplies, but suddenly that little 24x18 srathmore drawing pad you thought you had actually never graced your presence.
9. Cafeteria food gets old, quickly.
10. Dormitories are loud, even at 2:00Am. Your next-door dorm-mates will be banging around; the hallway doors will be doing the same.
11. Privacy vanishes. The only place you know you have to yourself is the shower and the toilet.
12. You nails won't look nice until your out of college.
13. Artschool is like having a gym membership. The daily mile trek, carrying a heavy portfolio, backpack, and toolbox will whip you into shape.
14. Get used to walking, a lot.
15. It sucks to live on the fourth floor. There are eight flights of stairs before you can get to your room...
16. You can learn a lot; but you will only learn for the amount effort that you put in. Listen to the professors; they know what they are doing. If they don't, you can still learn something, but only if you're willing to try.
EDIT: I have some more to add...
17. I've never known the joy of having clean laundry until now.
18. Don't procrastinate. DON'T! You will end up having to do a ton of extra work, all at once.
19. Make sure you take care of yourself... stay healthy, get enough sleep. Remember, health comes first.
20. Driving places in a car is a distant memory... the bus system is the reality, (nightmare.) Unless, that is, you're one of the lucky ones who owns a car.
